OUR STORY

London Youth Theatre is a youth company for 14 - 22 year olds, based at Seven Dials Playhouse in the heart of the West End. Our mission is to give young people the opportunity to make high-quality theatre in a professional environment, without the financial barriers that so often get in the way.

Our work follows a yearly programme consisting of three full-scale productions in professional London theatres. These productions give our members the chance to experience the full process of making theatre — from rehearsals to performance — in a supportive yet ambitious environment. Members also gain access to a series of workshops and masterclasses with experienced industry practitioners; from stage combat to acting technique, puppetry to improvisation.

Over 150 young people have come through LYT. Many of our ex-members have gone on to train at the UK’s top drama schools and some have gone on to perform in the West End, on UK/International Tours and on screen. Others have taken the skills they’ve gained here — confidence, collaboration, creativity — into universities and careers across a wide range of industries. Explore our Alumni Stories to see how far our members have gone — and where you might go next.

At LYT, 50% of our members join for free, and the rest pay what they can through a tiered pricing system. Our long-term goal is to become free for all our members. Opportunities like this in London are often expensive — LYT offers a more inclusive and affordable way for young people from all over the capital to explore their creativity.

We believe that theatre can be a vehicle for radically re-imagining our future. It has the power to open doors and change lives — sometimes in unexpected ways.
